Blue Route Mall host a Recycling ‘Buildathon’ in Celebration of Earth Day
On 22 April Blue Route Mall will be hosting their annual Sustainable Trendsetters Buildathon from 10:00 -16:00, with their physical sculptures on display until 3 May 2023 for shoppers to enjoy.
Learners from 12 participating local primary schools in the Southern Suburbs, will be working alongside one teacher per team to create a sculpture that represents something they are passionate about, with the winning school receiving R20 000 from Coca Cola Peninsula Beverages.
The participating schools are briefed to collect their own recyclable items which they then use to create their structural design. The different teams (made up of 6 learners, and one teacher) are required to build on-site for at least 4 hours with a maximum of 7 hours to complete their sculpture. The build will start at 10:00 and end at 16:00, with registration and prep starting at 9am. The team members can swap out during the day in the form of a relay should they wish to do so.
The public as well as family members and friends are encouraged to support this wonderful initiative and their favorite team by sharing the news on Facebook or Instagram as well as by visiting Blue Route Mall on 22 April from 10:00.
External judges selected by Blue Route Mall will judge the structures and announce the winning school by the end of April.
