African Folktales Festival 2022

The festival takes place from Sunday 20 to Thursday 23 March at the Masque Theatre, Muizenberg. The programme is most suitable for children between the ages of 6 – 12 years.

2- 4pm – double-bill: How to Hold the World and The Feast of the King of the Beasts

How to Hold the World is a wonderful story about a young boy who is tasked with holding up the world and what it means to grow up. He learns that being along doesn’t mean being strong, being helped doesn’t mean being selfish, and bravery is about being open to imagination and friendship The Feast of the King of Beasts is an exciting new anthology series stage production inspired by Aesop’s fables Reynard the Fox.

Jungle Theatre Company will present 3 different productions. Before each production, the audience will be treated to a story telling session before the curtain opens. After each performance there will be an interval. All are invited to come back into the theatre to take part in a workshop that gives the audience an opportunity to learn the songs and become some of the characters from the show.

  • 10am Greedy Spider storytelling; 10:15am Giraffe & Sunbird production; 11am break; 11:15am Giraffe workshop; 11:45am lunch break
  • 12:30pm Lion and Mouse Storytelling; 12:45pm River of Life / Umlambo Wobomi production; 1:30pm break; 1:45pm River workshop; 2:15pm snack break
  • 2:30pm Mantis Storytelling; 2:45pm Thandi Finds A Fossil production; 3:30pm break; 3:45pm Fossil workshop; 4:15 depart

Tickets for the full day programme are R60 per person and may be booked by emailing: info@jungletheatre.co.za or WhatsApp: 072 908 5160. Transport on a Golden Arrow bus for groups (min 50 / max 60) is also available for the ticket price of R65 per person. Tickets are also available at the door for cash only.
