Is the cost of taking a holiday deterring you from taking your family on a well-deserved break?

Let’s face it: holidays can be expensive and the more children you have, the higher the price tag. But, what if I told you the cost of not taking a family holiday is much higher than not?

Did you know that students who travel, are more likely to be successful academically? This is according to a recent study conducted by the US Travel Association. The same research shows adults who travelled between the ages of 12 and 18 were more likely to have a college degree and earn an average of 12% more, compared to others who didn’t travel during their childhood.

In an article, The Science Behind How Holidays Make Your Child Happier – and Smarter, which appeared in The Telegraph, Dr. Margot Sunderland, a child psychotherapist, said that family holidays help with a child’s brain development, which in turn improves concentration and is beneficial to physical and mental health.

Reconsider thus that your holiday spend may essentially not be a luxury. You don’t need to travel the world and deplete your savings account. You can build great memories by going to the same destination every year.

Looking at the ‘big picture’, a holiday home can be a great way to ensure family holidays for years to come and could even offer you the opportunity to leave a legacy that will remind your children of those wonderful family holiday times.

However, holiday homes can also become a burden. Many holiday home owners complain they spend their holidays fixing up and maintaining their properties. The nature of a holiday house means that you’ll only check on it a few times a year, so unless you have a regular cleaner or a security system, damage or other problems with the home could go unchecked and lead to a heavy financial burden.

Leaving a holiday home to your children may seem like a great way to leave a legacy, but in reality your children may not want the responsibility of owning a second house. They might need to travel much further to visit it and may not want to be held accountable for its upkeep.

Vacation ownership, like that offered by Dream Vacation Club, is the ideal solution to this problem. It costs only a fraction of what a holiday home would and the maintenance fees are divided among multiple owners. This means you can reduce any maintenance hassles and taxes while still being able to safeguard your holiday costs against inflation and peak season rates by paying for years’ of holidays upfront.

An ownership property will also give your children flexibility to choose when and where they want to travel. Through exchange opportunities, they will be able to explore numerous destinations around the world, or even opt to rent out the ownership space if they prefer.

Holiday time with your children is precious. Think of it this way: if your family takes one holiday a year, over the course of a lifetime, you only have 18 chances to create precious holiday memories with your kids.

Bottom line: don’t procrastinate when it comes to family holidays. It doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant: explore your options and choose what’s best for you and your family. We promise you that regular family holidays will yield a priceless legacy for your children.
